Caring for Library Books
Checking Out Promise
- When you scan your library card and book, you are PROMISING to be RESPONSIBLE for the book.
- Clarksville-Montgomery County School System policy requires parents or guardians to pay for lost or damaged library books.
- Clarksville-Montgomery County School System policy says report cards and progress reports should not be given to students if they owe money for lost or damaged library books.
- The average cost of a library book is $15.00.
Checking In Promise
- When you scan your library book for check in, you are promising that you took care of your library book.
- The book should be just like it was when you check it out.
Take good care of your library books when at school by
- storing your books inside your desk when you aren't reading it;
- not allowing friends to put your book in their backpack or desk;
- leaving your book in your backpack on the bus or at car circle.

- storing books inside your backpack when you aren't reading it;
- keeping your books separate from your personal books;
- keeping your books away from babies, little kids, and pets;
- keeping your library books inside!
At school or at home...
- no eating while reading;
- be sure your hands are clean before you begin reading;
- use a flat bookmark to save your place;
- never lay a book face down.
- don't use a library book!
- get a coloring book, notebook, or plain paper.
If you aren't reading your library book, it belongs in your desk or backpack.
You are less likely to misplace your library book if you always put it in one certain place.
